General Wisconsin Information

Wisconsin claims 381 miles(613km) of Lake Michigan shoreline, and a further 292 miles(470km) of Lake Superior coastline. The shores of Lake Michigan are lined with bluffs and sandy beaches, while the Lake Superior shoreline is mostly rocky with steep cliffs. The heavily forested hills and hundreds of small lakes of northern Wisconsin make it a favorite vacation destination. Along the shore of Lake Michigan from the Green Bay area southward to Illinois is the richest agricultural section of Wisconsin. It has a long growing season and very rich soil. The largest ports are Ashland, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Milwaukee and Superior. Lake Michigan winds tend to cool the area some in the summer and make the winters milder. Summers are warm with moderately high humidity, with temperatures occasionally reaching 90°F(32°C). June and July are generally the wettest months of the year. Snow usually begins falling in early November, and lasts into March and April. The color in the fall is spectacular in the northern areas of the state.

Wisconsin Recreation

The long snow season (early November to April) makes for excellent skiing, snowmobiling and other winter sports. Summer attractions include mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, hiking, camping, and boating. Wisconsin also features major cities, Madison, Green Bay and Milwaukee, where you can find your shopping, fine dining, entertainment and lodging. The western shore of Lake Michigan is great for swimming, sailing, fishing and features lodging from resorts to bed & breakfasts.
