Southeast Ontario
Southeast Ontario is Canada's heritage land where over 300 years of building the nation have covered the landscape with glorious historical buildings. From the delightful and historic town of Kingston to the nation's capital city Ottawa, this region is filled with natural beauty. You can enjoy many galleries and museums, shopping in the streets and the many outdoor markets, skating on the Rideau Canal, or sailing the over 450 lakes in the region. The activities of Southeastern Ontario are as diverse as Canada itself. Two great rivers, the Ottawa and the Saint Lawrence, surround this beautiful and historic corner of Ontario. This region is classic Ontario at its best. While traveling in Southeast Ontario don't forget about the city of Toronto. With a diverse ethnic mix, a worldwide reputation for cultural and professional sporting events, fine restaurants, and international stores and markets, you can go on a world tour just by visiting downtown Toronto. It is one of the leading theatre centres of the world, and its museums, art galleries and historic buildings help to make it Canada's most cosmopolitan and exciting city. Toronto Harbour on Lake Ontario is Canada's largest inland port, but the waterfront is also home to exciting nightlife.

Southeast Ontario Recreation
Southeastern Ontario has something for everyone. Take a cruise down the Rideau Canal from Ottawa, Canada's capital and home of the world's largest tulip festival, to Kingston. You can navigate the Trent-Severn Waterway or the famous 1000 islands or remain inland and enjoy the history that is around every curve of the road. From the Parliament Buildings to quaint villages to fascinating museums like the Canadian Automotive Museum in Oshawa, the region is rich in cultural heritage.

If you love art you can view some of the latest at the National Gallery of Canada, the famed Group of Seven exhibit at Kleinburg or at one of the many artist and artisan studios that line the countryside. If early art is more your speed, there are ancient Aboriginal rock carvings called petroglyphs to visit.

Outdoors, you can explore the world's largest system of freshwater sand dunes and hundreds of unspoiled, freshwater lakes. The region is also one of the few places east of the Rockies where you can enjoy true, whitewater rafting.

From theatre to museums and galleries, incredible shopping and professional sports, Toronto has endless possibilities. Dine at over 5,000 restaurants that serve up most any cuisine. Take in attractions, colourful festivals, fabulous music and enjoy parks everywhere, including the Toronto Islands. Visit the exciting Harbourfront or walk the world's longest street through the middle of the world's greenest city. Experience history in an authentic castle or fort. Golf in and around the world's third-largest urban golfing mecca. Plan a day trip to nearby Caledon for country auctions and antiquing or stay in Toronto for the big city nightlife.
