Indiana's Lake Michigan shore is filled with a history of tourism. Rumors circulate about Al Capone and other Chicago gangsters vacationing here during the 1920's, and several cottages which are the works of famous designers still stand. There are sandy beaches and dunes lining most of the shoreline, which make for great hiking or just relaxing in the sunshine.

Indiana offers a little bit for everyone. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is a great place to relax, hike and learn about the ecology of sand dunes. There are boating and fishing charters out of Michigan City and shopping around the area at outlet malls. While in Michigan City, check out the Michigan City Lighthouse, the old lighthouse museum or take in a play at the 122 year old Canterbury Theater.
