Indiana has a short stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline that is bordered mostly by dunes and beaches. In this three-county area, the climate is very humid during the summer and cool during the winter. This small part of the Great Lakes is known world-wide for its excellent coho salmon and lake trout fishery. The resort town of Michigan City is the most popular place along Indiana's Lake Michigan shoreline.

Activities here include hiking, cross-country skiing, and hang gliding at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. There are several antique and outlet stores around the area, making shopping another option. If you love sports you can check out South Bend, Home of the Irish and the College Football Hall of Fame. Indianapolis features professional and amateur sports and hosts many events like the NCAA Finals. College and high school basketball is extremely popular and if you are there in season stop in and check a game out.
