Illinois claims 63 miles(101km) of Lake Michigan shoreline with many sandy beaches along this stretch. The area bordering Lake Michigan is very fertile, with small hills, lakes and marshes. Chicago is the biggest attraction on Illinois' Lake Michigan Coast. Lake Michigan influences the weather in Chicago with warm winter winds and cooler summer winds, making a visit enjoyable at any time of the year. Chicago offers many large harbors and marinas for boaters on the Great Lakes.

Illinois Recreation

Museums, art galleries and shopping are big attractions in this large city. Both downtown and in the suburbs there are numerous shopping centers and malls. At night, visit the many theater, comedy and nightclub opportunities that exist within the city. Boaters and fishermen are attracted to the area also because of its many marinas and numerous sportfishing opportunities. North Point Marina, at Winthrop Harbor, is the largest marina on the Great Lakes. Waukegon, north of Chicago, is also a popular boating destination.
